Competence Center for Art+

The Competence Center for Art+ is a competence center for art market research, which deals with current issues, trends and future scenarios in international art markets in research and consulting projects with renowned institutions.

The Competence Center for Art+ was founded in June 2022 at the Institute for Marketing and Customer Insight at the University of St.Gallen. We are a competence center for art market research, which deals with current issues, trends and future scenarios in international art markets in research and consulting projects with renowned art institutions. One of our core competencies is the research of market structures, processes and participants of commercial and non-commercial art markets. We are interested in the dynamics of the traditional art market as well as in future challenges and changes, such as new technologies, changing customer needs and young generations.

Projects

On these and other topics we conduct tailor-made research and consulting projects for art institutions and companies, e.g., art collections, insurances and foundations. For example, we research analog, digital and hybrid art markets to identify the added value and limits of new and disruptive technologies, as well as the needs and behavior of current and future market participants. We develop strategies for the market-driven integration of traditional and future-oriented services. Along with the current debate, we also study digital art forms, digital distribution and mediation channels, and the metaverse of art. Finally, we deal with common marketing topics such as benchmarking, innovation and market research on, among others, customer journey, customer experience management and pricing of art.

Vision

In addition to research and consulting projects, we consider our educational mission at the HSG to be our main task: We want to draw the attention of university members and the public to art, teach how to deal with art, and initiate critical reflection on economic as well as artistic topics. The discourse on content is also a central concern for us. We collaborate with renowned institutions and make a social contribution through curatorial work and art education.
